The National Cleaner Cooking Awareness Campaign in Mangochi

The NCSC with support from United Purpose took the National Cleaner Cooking Awareness Campaign to the district of Mangochi on 2nd of September, 2017. These district by district campaigns were launched on 5th June at Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe.

The awareness campain in Mangochi was organised around a football bonanza between the local teams of Mangochi who played for a cash sum of K100,000 and a trophy. United Purpose organised a half-open canopy lorry which went around the district of Mangochi advertising the event. The lorry was selling stoves to the residents of Mangochi and the receipts obtained from these cash sales, were used as entry tickets for the football matches.

The teams, Fish Eagles, Chawe Bullets, Hard Knockers and Chimwala all played against each other until the finals. The first match was between Fish Eagles and Chawe Bullets which ended in penalties with the final at score 4-3 respectively.

The second match was between Hard Knockers and Chimwala which ended with the score of 1-0 respectively.

The final match was between Fish Eagles and Hard knockers, and the match ended with the score of 2-2. In a penalty shootout, Fish Eagles were victorious with the score of 6 and Hard Knockers lost with the score of 5.

In between the matches, several awareness activities (quizzes, dancing competitions by United Purpose with support from MBAULA were employed to educate the audience about the benefits of the Chitetezo Mbaula. The winners of these activities were awarded with Chitetezo Mbaula branded t shirts.

John Malunga and Sonye performed their slew of hits for the audience. Sonyezo who collaborated with Faith Mussa on a MBAULA theme song titled #NdapezaMbambande, performed the song for the crowd.
